Transit Information
It is very easy to walk around Downtown Oakland, with many attractions within easy distance of the Oakland Marriott City Center. Other options include taking the Free B on Broadway shuttle, which runs on Broadway between Jack London Square and Grand Ave., with service to Jack London Square (connections to Amtrak Capitol Corridor and the Ferry to San Francisco), Downtown, Uptown, and Lake Merritt. Shuttles run every 10-15 minutes from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (extended until 1:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays).
BART
(510) 465-2278, www.bart.gov
The different lines that serve the Oakland 12th Street City Center Station are the Richmond-Fremont, Richmond-Daly City/Millbrae and Pittsburg/Bay Point-SF Int’l Airport/Millbrae. The UC Berkeley campus is served by the Richmond line. For more information on how BART tickets work, see http://www.bart.gov/tickets
Note: Although, on BART maps, the various lines are indicated by different colors, BART lines are designated by the last stops on each line. So, for example, the “orange” line travels between Richmond and Fremont; when boarding one of these trains the signs on the station platform and on the trains themselves will say either “Richmond” (if the train is traveling northbound) or “Fremont” (if the train is traveling southbound). Nearly all of the BART lines travel through Downtown Oakland, but please check the maps at the stations to ensure you know which train to board. For information on the lines that travel between Downtown Oakland and the airports, see the “Getting There” page.
